BERNHARD WILLHELM 2pm Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild, 11 rue Berryer, Paris 8e

What to make of this quirky interpretation for menswear autumn/winter 2011-12 by Bernhard Willhelm? As usual the wacky designer didn't hold back. Highly controversial - highly likely - coming from the German designer.  'Willhelm's creations are always a bit bizarre and totally left-field,' said a mate as we waited for the Songzio show to start. OK, so it wasn't everyone's cup of tea but it definitely got us all talking about it. Usually after the shows people simply head for the exit in a quiet, orderly fashion, at Willhelm the crowd - and the models - mingled and mulled around the exhibition space as the nursery rhyme 'Frere Jacques' blared out of the speakers.

The collection featured cool prints of the world and catchy statements on hoodies, tops, long johns-slash-leggings as well as fitted cycling shorts. 'I feel like he [Willhelm] couldn't care less what people think about his work, his priority is probably not to sell millions in churning out a coherent and comtemporary menswear collection. Willhelm will basically only do what Willhelm wants to do and strongly believes in,' my friend added. And apparently that's putting out more tantalisingly thought-provoking pieces. Seeing his exhibition/show at Paris Men's Fashion Week was interesting but frustrating at the same time, you know - like when you have something at the tip of your tongue but can't quite pronounce it? It was exactly that! You know it's there but you just can't put your finger on it.

Bernhard Willhelm is clearly a big hit in Japan!
