KENZO 11am Galerie de Minéralogie, Jardin des Plantes, 36 rue Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, Paris 5e

Pure dead brilliant!

Pure Glaswegian, born and bred in the Scottish industrial power city - how could I not think that Kenzo's autumn/winter 2011-12 menswear collection was the best thing since sliced bread? This was without a doubt my favourite menswear show of all time, certainly - in my opinion - Creative Director Antonio Marras' best menswear collection at Kenzo by a long shot. Hours after the show and I was still reeling and brimming over with national pride and grateful appreciation of this new calibre of menswear from the Japanese fashion house. The thorough research, attention to detail and clinical execution resulted in a collection that was met with raved reviews during Paris Men's Fashion Week this season.
The invitation had also been well thought-out - a little teaser to whet our appetites, the small tartan clad box that came with the invite contained an edition of 'The Kenzo Mystery of Crime' newspaper, and the essential components of a detective's tools: a magnifying glass, a revolver (not a real one ofcourse, just a cardboard paper cut out!), a reflex camera, a pocket watch and a bottle of truth serum.
So much swagger - loved it!
The attention to detail was impressive
The collection included a stripy cardigan layered over a bright green shirt and tie, a sleek dark green tartan suit worn with a blue denim shirt and tartan tie (decorated at the collar with a kilt pin). Hoodies were worn under tailored blazers and paired with sweatpants, chunky wool socks and smart brogues.  As can be expected generous amounts of tartan and check prints featured heavily on the runway, but it looked and felt so brand new. There was nothing old or repetitive about this collection, even the kilts looked fresh and current.
Awesome show!
